Frequently asked questions
Practical answers for authors, participants and members: submitting a paper, visas and travel, certificates and membership.
Submitting a paper
How do I submit a paper to the FAMAC conference?
Papers are submitted in response to the call for papers, which is published for each conference and gives the conference theme, tracks, submission format and deadlines. The call for papers for FAMAC 2027 is now open, and papers are submitted via EasyChair by February 15, 2027. Read more on the conference page.
What happens after I submit my paper?
Every submission goes through a review process in which each paper is evaluated by at least two reviewers. Authors are informed of the decision by email, and accepted papers are scheduled into the conference tracks.
Can I present online if I cannot travel to Finland?
FAMAC is organised as an in-person conference in Finland. Whether remote presentation is possible is decided for each conference. If you cannot travel, please contact the conference team through the contact form before you submit.
Are there awards for the best papers?
Yes. Best Paper awards are given in each conference track. At FAMAC 2025 and FAMAC 2026, two papers in every track received an award. You can find the winners on each conference page.
Visas and travel
Can I get an invitation letter for my visa application?
Yes. If you need a visa to travel to Finland, the conference team can provide an invitation letter confirming your participation in the conference once you have registered. Send your request through the contact form with your full name as it appears in your passport, your nationality, your affiliation and, if you are presenting, the title of your paper. Please note that the letter does not guarantee that a visa will be issued, and the Academy cannot cover travel costs or contact visa authorities on your behalf.
How early should I apply for a visa to Finland?
As early as possible. Finland is part of the Schengen area, and a visa application can be submitted up to six months before your trip. Processing normally takes up to 15 days but can take longer, so we recommend applying as soon as you have your invitation letter. Check the requirements for your country on the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs website.
Where is the conference held?
The venue changes from year to year. Conferences have been held in Helsinki (2022 and 2024), Espoo (2023) and Tampere (2025), and in 2026 on a conference cruise between Helsinki and Stockholm. FAMAC 2027 will be held at the University of Turku on June 9–11, 2027. See the conference page for details.
Registration and documents
Can I attend the conference without presenting a paper?
Yes. The conference is open to researchers, doctoral students, educators and practitioners who want to follow the presentations and take part in the discussions. Registration details are published with each conference.
Can I get a certificate of attendance?
Yes. If you need a certificate of attendance or presentation, for example for your university or funder, ask the conference team through the contact form and they will send one after the conference.
Can I get a receipt or an invoice for my registration fee?
Yes. If your university or employer needs a receipt or an invoice for your registration fee, contact the conference team and include the billing details your organisation requires.
